Pyramid Research projects voice services to remain the core telecom revenue generator in Cameroon and expect that mobile voice revenues should amount to $1.3bn by 2017. However, data services will be an increasingly important source of revenue generation: If the regulator can encourage price reductions, then low-tech mobile data services, such as Orange's new International Mobile Top-Up service, are likely to be embraced by many Cameroonians. When intensified competition from a new MVNO and a 3G mobile network operator invites lower prices and broader coverage, we expect more subscribers to be welcomed to the mobile market.
